The session was intended for suppliers selling restricted products and services.

A session on Ontario’s recently introduced restrictions on door-to-door sales drew a full crowd at the Canadian Mechanical and Plumbing Exposition.

Nick Robins, director of the Consumer Policy and Liaison branch at the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, led the discussion.

Robbins also provided an overview of Bill 59, Putting Consumers First Act (Consumer Protection Statute Law Amendment) and amendments to the Consumer Protection Act.

In response to concerns related to repairs – in which a contractor is not able to solicit new products when called for a repair if a customer’s appliance does not work – Robins said he would relay concerns to the ministry.

A compliance assistance guide will soon be made available. Those interested were encouraged to email consumerpolicy@ontario.ca

CMPX 2018 brought the industry together in March for a loaded three-day event at the 200,000 square foot Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, ON. www.cmpx.ca
